📝 General Tso’s Chicken Recipe

🐔 Ingredients
For the Chicken:

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs – 500 g (cut into bite-sized pieces)

Cornstarch – ½ cup

Soy sauce – 1 tbsp

Salt – ¼ tsp

Pepper – ¼ tsp

Oil – for deep frying
For the Sauce:

Soy sauce – 3 tbsp

Rice vinegar – 1½ tbsp

Hoisin sauce – 2 tbsp

Brown sugar – 2 tbsp

Cornstarch – 1 tsp

Water – ⅓ cup

Garlic – 3 cloves, minced

Ginger – 1 tsp, grated
-
Dried red chilies – 4–6 (adjust to taste)

Sesame oil – 1 tsp
For Garnish:

Spring onions – 2 tbsp, chopped
-
Toasted sesame seeds – 1 tsp (optional)

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

In a bowl, combine chicken pieces with soy sauce, egg, salt, and pepper.

Mix well and let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
Step 2: Coat and Fry

In another bowl, mix cornstarch and flour.

Dredge each marinated chicken piece in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

Heat oil in a deep pan or wok to 350°F (175°C).

Fry chicken in batches for 4–5 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 3: Prepare the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.

In a clean wok or large pan, heat 1 tsp sesame oil.

Add minced garlic, ginger, and dried chilies; stir-fry for 30 seconds.

Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and stir continuously until it thickens (about 2 minutes).
Step 4: Combine

Add fried chicken pieces to the thickened sauce.

Toss well to coat evenly and cook for another 2–3 minutes.

Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds.
